Cover comparison · Mallorca
Sanitas Más Salud is full cover, including hospital stays and surgery, available up to age 75 with a health questionnaire and three co-payment options. Sanitas Único is for over-60s, with no upper age limit and no questionnaire, and costs far less, but hospital stays and surgery are not listed in its published cover. Residents, Sanitas's plan for foreign nationals, sits alongside both.
Cover, conditions and prices checked on 2 October 2026 by Tomás Schwaighofer, exclusive Sanitas insurance agent, against Sanitas's product pages, its April 2026 Residents sales guide and the April 2026 tariff.
Más Salud covers GP care, specialists, simple and complex tests, hospital stays, surgery, dental with more than 30 services and video consultations. Único covers GP care, all specialties, simple tests and the most common complex scans, basic dental, video consultations and home services; hospital stays and surgery are not listed in what Sanitas publishes for it.
Residents covers GP care and specialists, tests, surgery and hospital stays, emergency home visits, emergencies while travelling abroad and Dental 21. The table follows Sanitas's own product pages and its Residents sales guide. Where Sanitas gives no detail, it says so. That's not the same as "not covered": it means the point isn't published, so if it matters to you, ask me to check the policy wording before you sign.

Más Salud can be taken out up to 75, with a health questionnaire and waiting periods of 3 to 8 months depending on the service; you choose medium, low or no co-payment. Único starts at 60 with no upper age limit or questionnaire, and almost everything works from day one. Residents has no co-payments and can be taken out up to 64.
A waiting period (carencia) is the time between the start date and when you can use a service. Residents para Visado, the version for visa and residence applications, has no waiting periods at all. If you're moving from another insurer in Spain, the Sanitas switching offer can remove most of the Más Salud ones: see the last part of the table.

In Mallorca, a 62-year-old pays €54.86 a month for Único and €167.81 for Más Salud with the medium co-payment; at 70, it's €60.90 against €221.59. Under 60, Único isn't available: at 30, Más Salud costs €69.41 to €103.07 a month and Residents €107.18.
The gap after 60 comes down to what each plan covers: Más Salud includes hospital stays and surgery, Único's published cover does not. For a 45-year-old needing a policy for a visa, Residents para Visado works out at €145.87 a month, billed half-yearly or yearly.

One person on an individual policy in Mallorca, Sanitas tariff for new policies starting by 31 December 2026, including the 0.15% Consorcio surcharge. Más Salud and Residents cost less per head for couples and families. "—" means the plan can't be taken out at that age (Único from 60; Residents up to 64). *Residents para Visado is billed half-yearly or yearly; the figure is the monthly equivalent. The final price is confirmed when the policy is set up.
For people who rarely see a doctor but want hospital and surgery cover at the lowest Más Salud premium. The trade-off: you pay something every time, and the charge steps up after your third service of the year.
The one I suggest most to families with children and anyone who sees a doctor a few times a year: each person's first 6 services are free and co-payments are capped at €360 a year. The trade-off: a slightly higher premium than the medium option.
For heavy users or anyone in ongoing treatment who wants a fixed monthly cost. The trade-off: the highest premium; at 30, €33.66 a month more than the medium co-payment.
My default from 76, when Más Salud can no longer be taken out, and earlier if you'd rather skip the health questionnaire. The trade-off: hospital stays and surgery aren't in its published cover, so if you want them insured and you're 75 or under, look at Más Salud.
For foreign nationals up to 64 who want full cover with no co-payments, plus emergencies when travelling abroad. If you need the policy for a visa or residence application, the version is Residents para Visado: no waiting periods, repatriation included. The trade-off: it costs more than even Más Salud with no co-payment at the same age.
In the Balearic Islands 30.1% of people have private health insurance, above the Spanish average of 26.2% (IDIS 2026 report). Sanitas says more than 2.5 million people trust it (sanitas.es).
Hospital stays and surgery are not listed in the cover Sanitas publishes for Único, which focuses on GP and specialist consultations, tests, basic dental, video consultations and home services, so if you want hospital treatment insured and you're 75 or under, Más Salud is the plan that includes it. If in doubt, we can check the policy wording together.
Más Salud can be taken out up to age 75, Único from 60 with no upper limit and Residents up to 64; once you're insured, there is no age limit on Más Salud, Único or Residents para Visado, so from 76 onwards Único is the only one of the three you can join as a new customer. Between 60 and 64 you can choose any of them.
It depends on how often you see a doctor: the medium co-payment has the lowest premium and charges €4 to €15 per service, the low co-payment makes each person's first 6 services free and caps co-payments at €360 a year, and the no co-payment option charges nothing per visit for the highest premium. With young children, the low co-payment usually pays off.
For the non-lucrative visa, consulates ask for a policy from an insurer authorised in Spain with full cover and no co-payments or waiting periods, and Sanitas's product built for that is Residents para Visado, which has neither and includes repatriation; Más Salud and Único both carry waiting periods. Travel insurance doesn't count. The visa certificate is emailed to the policyholder when the policy starts.
Not if you've had full-cover health insurance with another insurer in Spain for at least a year: Sanitas then removes the waiting periods on your new policy except childbirth and bariatric surgery, provided you send your policy schedule, or a card showing the start date, and your latest premium receipt. Life-threatening emergencies never have a waiting period.
No: you pay the premium in the Sanitas tariff, and the commission Sanitas pays me under my exclusive agency contract isn't added to your bill, nor do I charge you anything on top, either at sign-up or later. The transparency page sets out exactly how I'm paid.
This page summarises what Sanitas publishes about each plan. What counts is Sanitas's own product pages and, above all, your policy documents.
In about a minute you'll see the Sanitas plans that fit your ages, priced from the tariff, before you give any contact details.
