How it works
Yes: Sanitas Único is designed for people aged 60 and over, with no health questionnaire and no maximum age to join, so you can take it out with a pre-existing condition, and in Mallorca it costs €54.86 a month at 62.
Most benefits are available from day one; MRI and CT scans have a 6-month waiting period. Más Salud, the full-cover policy, is open to new applicants up to age 75 and does require a questionnaire.
Único covers GP appointments and all medical specialties, simple tests and the most common complex ones (ultrasound, MRI, CT), basic dental care, video consultations, 24-hour emergency video calls and home services such as medicine delivery, physiotherapy and podiatry, but hospital stays and surgery are not listed in its published cover.
So if private surgery and hospital care matter to you, Único is the wrong policy, and I'll point you to Más Salud instead (open to new applicants up to 75). Único makes sense if you already have public healthcare for hospital treatment, for example through a registered S1, and want private specialists and tests. It won't work for a non-lucrative visa either, which requires full cover with no co-payments or waiting periods.
Único has stepped co-payments: nothing for your first 6 services, €5 each for services 7 to 15 and €10 from the 16th, plus €12 for diagnostic tests and treatments, €8 for A&E and nothing for the 24-hour emergency video call.
