Private hospitals in Mallorca on Sanitas' network: A&E, clinics and what your policy covers

Living in Mallorca13 min readUpdated: 21 October 2026

In short

Sanitas' medical directory for the Balearic Islands lists eight hospitals and clinics in Mallorca: Juaneda, Miramar, Rotger, Palmaplanas and Cruz Roja in Palma, plus Son Verí, Llevant and the Hospital General de Muro outside the city. Más Salud, Residents and Único all include the same eight. What differs is what each plan covers: hospital stays and surgery aren't in Único's published cover.

Everything on this page comes from the medical directory guides (cuadro médico) that Sanitas publishes for the Balearic Islands, dated 17 October 2026. I downloaded them from sanitas.es on 21 October and went through them centre by centre, comparing the guide used by Más Salud and Residents with the one used by Único.

I'm an exclusive Sanitas agent. Salud Balear is the name of my agency, and this isn't a Sanitas website. The directory changes during the year, so I download it again every quarter. Before you head to a particular centre, check it in your app; I explain how further down.

Which hospitals in Mallorca are on Sanitas' network?

Eight, according to the "Hospitales y clínicas" section of Sanitas' Balearic directory. Five are in Palma: Clínica Juaneda, Policlínica Miramar, Clínica Rotger, Hospital Quirónsalud Palmaplanas and Hospital de la Cruz Roja. The other three are elsewhere on the island: Hospital Quirónsalud Son Verí (Llucmajor), Hospital de Llevant (Portocristo, Manacor) and Hospital General de Muro.

On top of those eight, the directory has nine medical centres with urgent or extended-hours care, most of them open during the day only. Here they all are. The urgent care column repeats what the directory says, without reading anything into it:

A couple of notes on reading it. "24 h." is the label the directory prints next to a centre, and it appears here only where the directory prints it. Rotger and Palmaplanas offer the same four kinds of urgent care as Juaneda and Miramar, but the directory gives them no hours in that section. In its list of hospitals, on the other hand, Juaneda, Rotger, Cruz Roja and Palmaplanas carry "24 h.". Two centres work the other way round: Miramar has "24 h." in urgent care but not in the hospital list, and Cruz Roja has it in the hospital list but appears in none of the urgent-care sections. The two Juaneda Urgencias Médicas centres, in Calvià and Llucmajor, are listed under primary care, general medicine, but they're in the table because that's the name you'll be searching for: the Calvià one carries "24 h.". For winter, the directory says nothing about the rest of the week at the Llucmajor centre, so call before you go.

Elsewhere in the directory, the Hospital General de Muro also appears as Hospital Juaneda Muro, on the same street. Juaneda's website places it in Playa de Muro and says it's open 24 hours in winter and summer.

Which hospitals on Sanitas' list have 24-hour A&E in Mallorca?

In its urgent care section, Sanitas' directory prints "24 h." for four hospitals: Clínica Juaneda and Policlínica Miramar in Palma, the Hospital de Llevant in Portocristo and the Hospital General de Muro. Outside that section, under general medicine, Juaneda Urgencias Médicas in Calvià also carries "24 h.". Rotger and Palmaplanas also have general, paediatric, trauma and eye emergencies, but the directory gives no hours for them in that section.

Children's A&E is more concentrated than you might expect. In Mallorca, the directory lists paediatric emergencies at just five hospitals: the four in Palma with A&E and the one in Muro. The Hospital de Llevant takes general and trauma emergencies but isn't listed for paediatrics. If you have young children and live in the east or south of the island, that's worth knowing before the first fever at 3 a.m.

Key fact

Sanitas' Balearic medical directory, 17 October 2026: paediatric emergencies at 5 hospitals in Mallorca (Juaneda, Miramar, Rotger, Palmaplanas and Muro), and the "24 h." label on the urgent care of 4 (Juaneda, Miramar, Llevant and Muro). Juaneda Urgencias Médicas in Calvià also carries "24 h.", but the directory lists it under general medicine, not urgent care.

Away from the hospitals, the directory lists daytime urgent care at medical centres. Quirónsalud Nuredduna in Palma opens Monday to Sunday from 8:00 to 22:00; the Inca centre, Monday to Saturday from 8:00 to 21:00; Manacor, Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 20:00. The Llucmajor specialist centre covers Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 21:00, and Policlinic Cala Millor 9:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 20:00, including weekends between May and October.

For something minor, the Centro Médico Sanitas Palma and the Hospital Quirónsalud Son Verí both offer extended-hours GP care, Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 21:00 (the Sanitas centre also on Saturdays, 10:00 to 14:00). If you can't get out of the house, the directory lists urgent home visits by a GP and a nurse in Palma, Calvià, Manacor and Sóller. In Palma they come from the Servicio de Atención Continuada, whose number is on the directory's first page.

Does the hospital list change with Más Salud, Residents or Único?

The hospitals don't. Sanitas publishes a directory per product: in the Balearic Islands, Más Salud and Residents (including Residents for visas) share one guide, and Único has its own. Both list the same eight hospitals and the same medical emergencies in Mallorca. What differs is which services each guide lists and, above all, what each policy covers inside the hospital.

The last row is the one that matters. Único, Sanitas' plan for the over-60s with no health questionnaire, lets you see specialists, have tests and use A&E at those hospitals under its sliding copay: the first six services cost €0 and in-person A&E costs €8, while the 24-hour urgent video consultation has no copay. Its directory also lists surgeons, but hospital stays and operations aren't part of its published cover.

My view: if you have Spanish public healthcare, through an S1 for instance, Único can make sense, because the public hospitals cover admissions and surgery. Without it, I wouldn't rely on Único alone, since it leaves out exactly the expensive part. The full cover of both plans, with copays and waiting periods, is in Más Salud and Único, line by line.

How do I check whether my policy covers a particular hospital?

Log in to Mi Sanitas, in the app or on the web. Sanitas' directory search says that once you identify yourself, the results are adjusted to the directory of the policy you hold. Without a login, download the PDF for your product and the Balearic Islands from sanitas.es. And book before you go: "P.P." in the directory means "previa petición", by appointment.

In practice:

  1. In Mi Sanitas, log in and search for the centre or the specialty. The app is available in English and lets you filter doctors by language.
  2. If you'd rather have the PDF, open the directory search on sanitas.es, go to "Descargas" and then "Cuadro médico en PDF". Choose your product and the zone "Illes Balears/Islas Baleares". Check the date on the first page: the edition I used is dated 17 October 2026.
  3. Read the centre's whole entry: address, opening hours, whether it says "P.P." and whether it carries "24 h.". Each guide runs to more than sixty pages, so search for the centre's name.
  4. If you're already a customer and want a person to confirm it, Sanitas answers on 91 752 28 52 or 93 362 34 49.

What the directory doesn't tell you is what your policy covers inside each centre. That's in your policy terms. For Más Salud, Sanitas puts it like this: free choice of centre and specialist, "siempre que pertenezca al cuadro médico" (as long as they're in the directory).

Does Sanitas have its own hospital in Mallorca?

No. None of the eight hospitals in the October 2026 directory belongs to Sanitas. What Sanitas does own is the Centro Médico Sanitas Palma, opened in November 2025 at Avinguda del Gran i General Consell, 6: its first centre in the Balearic Islands. That same month it announced a hospital in Palma, together with Mapfre, for 2029.

The Sanitas centre isn't in the directory's hospital section. What the directory lists for it is extended-hours GP care and a long list of consultations, including paediatrics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, trauma, ENT, cardiology, dermatology and urology, plus scans such as MRI and CT. For hospital A&E you go to one of the eight in the first table; a hospital stay only if your policy covers it (Único's published cover doesn't include one).

Can I use my EHIC or GHIC at these hospitals?

No. The European Health Insurance Card, and the UK's GHIC, only work with providers in the public system. In the EU's own words, "your EHIC does not cover private healthcare", so it won't pay for treatment at Juaneda, Miramar or any other hospital on this list.

Mallorca's four public hospitals (Son Espases, Son Llàtzer, Manacor and Inca) work differently: you use them with a Spanish health card once Spain recognises your right to public care, and which one is yours depends on your address. You can have both public and private cover at once. How the public system works, and who's entitled to it, is in healthcare in Mallorca for expats.

What do I do in a medical emergency if I'm with Sanitas?

If it's life-threatening, call 112 or 061, IB-Salut's medical emergency service. If it's urgent but not serious, go to A&E at a centre in your directory, or start with Sanitas' 24-hour urgent video consultation with a GP or paediatrician, which has no copay on Más Salud or Único.

That holds even on plans that otherwise have copays, and according to Sanitas, life-threatening emergencies have no waiting period. Outside the daytime centres' hours, the A&E departments the directory marks "24 h." in Mallorca are Juaneda, Miramar, Llevant and Muro, and the directory's only paediatric A&E in Mallorca outside Palma is in Muro. Separately, under general medicine, Juaneda Urgencias Médicas in Calvià also carries "24 h.".

If the person calling doesn't speak Spanish, the Balearic 112 takes calls in other languages too: in 2024, 6.07% of the calls it answered were in English, German, French or Italian, according to the Balearic Government.

Will hospital staff speak English or German?

The directory doesn't say which languages are spoken at each hospital, so nobody can honestly promise you a whole hospital in your language. What you can choose is the doctor: the Mi Sanitas app is in English and lets you filter doctors by language, and the directory search on sanitas.es shows the language on each doctor's profile.

If you need a specialist who speaks your language, English or German, search the app by specialty and by centre before you book. I work in English, German, Spanish and Catalan, so if you'd like to go through it together in your language or your family's, that's fine too.

One thing to do today: open Mi Sanitas, find the urgent care nearest your home and save the address on your phone. If you're not with Sanitas yet and want to know which plan fits you (Más Salud, Residents or Único), the two-minute quiz shows the options for your ages, at their rate-card price.

Frequently asked questions

Five, according to Sanitas' Balearic medical directory dated 17 October 2026: Clínica Juaneda, Policlínica Miramar, Clínica Rotger, Hospital Quirónsalud Palmaplanas and Hospital de la Cruz Roja. The first four have general, paediatric, trauma and eye emergencies; Cruz Roja isn't listed for urgent care.

At five hospitals on the directory: Juaneda, Miramar, Rotger and Palmaplanas in Palma, and the Hospital General de Muro. The directory marks Juaneda, Miramar and Muro with "24 h.". Outside Palma, Muro is the only hospital on the directory with paediatric emergencies.

Yes. Único's guide lists the same eight hospitals in Mallorca as the Más Salud and Residents guide, with the same emergencies: you can see specialists, have tests and use A&E, with copays. What isn't in Único's published cover is hospital stays and surgery.

It offers extended-hours GP care, Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 21:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00, and the directory warns that hours may vary. It isn't in the hospital section, so for hospital A&E in Palma you have Juaneda, Miramar, Rotger and Palmaplanas.

Sanitas' directory doesn't list languages by hospital, so nobody can promise that everyone at a hospital speaks English. You can choose the doctor, though: the Mi Sanitas app is in English and lets you filter doctors by language.

Yes, if Spain recognises your right to it, through work, an S1 or as a family member. Private cover runs alongside it and you can use both. The exception is a residence permit that requires private insurance, such as the non-lucrative visa: there, your policy is your cover.
